SCHMIGADOON! finale was a master class in how to solve the worldās problems. With one huge musical number, we learned that if we āreinvent and re-examine,ā change is possible. Cue the tears. Yank our emotional heartstrings.
Donāt get me wrong, I love SCHMIGADOON! The writing is clever, fast-paced, and humorous. The explanation of āwhat is loveā was spot-on for anyone āin love.ā The musical numbers actually do propel the storyline of Josh and
Melissaās strained relationship forward. The entire ensemble is sheer perfection. The blackout ending left viewers wanting more.
The only problem for me was so much of this final episode was wrapped up almost too quickly. I wanted to be a part of the denouement. I needed to have more time and more layers pulled apart. Even though I felt and shed those tears, SCHMIGADOON! could have taken me to an even higher level.
The blocking of the final number āChangeā was choreographed as a curtain callā¦right down to the close-up face shots of each character. Cecily Strong and Keegan-Michael Key made their entrance right down the middle. Broadway would be proud.
SCHMIGADOON! is rumored to be coming back for a second season with the original cast. I am a fan who will be waiting in line to take my seat. āCan I have a cackle ladies?ā
It is available on Apple TV+.
