“There’s before they died, and after, and ripples in between.”
– Bill Burr as Coach Bobson
For an episode that reveals how Daniel and Laura’s (Deverly Jacobs) mom both die, E7 is surprisingly lighthearted. Everything has been building up for audiences to learn what happened to Daniel, and the penultimate episode gives us the answers. This is TV worldbuilding at its finest.
The abandonment and isolation that Laura feels throughout E7 are personified as she takes her driving test alone, with the help of her old basketball coach turned DMV instructor (Bill Burr). And Burr is perfect in this role.
I’ve strangely gotten used to RESERVATION DOGS continuing to be about nothing, but also something much more meaningful – life. It continues to be a treat, returning to the reservation weekly with these characters. It’s a thoughtful experience that will leave audiences wanting more “Chuckogee” in future episodes.
It’s available on FX Hulu.
