RAIN DOGS started happy, relaxed, and loving. Then, Costello (Daisy May Cooper), Iris (Fleur Tashjian), and Selby (Jack Farthing) went from feeling secure to the pits of hell. The “metronome” began ticking immediately.
Dysfunction is the name of the game. The writers keep Costello and Selby on the edge of sanity month after month. It is similar to hearing the sound of a fingernail along a chalkboard. It just makes you cringe with intense anticipation. Their passive/aggressive bouts are compelling and often cruel. It includes peeing in all the wrong places, sourdough bread, adoption, and money wasted by gambling. So much happens in 25 minutes with humor, pathos, and anger. It is challenging to keep up.
RAIN DOGS is constantly about to go over the edge. Nothing good lasts, and no one knows how to survive and thrive for life. I fear next week’s episode will start us in the gutter again.
RAIN DOGS is available to stream on HBO MAX.
