If there is one movie you need to watch this year, it must be PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN. Starring Carey Mulligan and written and directed by Emerald Fennell, this crime thriller plays out like a classic “Whodunit” – only in reverse. Carey’s Cassandra, the promising young woman in question, lost her best friend Nina, after Nina’s sexual assault during a med-school party. Cassy proceed to go on a vengeful spree where the psychological torture she dishes out causes far greater pain than any physical torture. As with any great storytelling, you will have no idea what happens next and writer/director Emerald Fennell consistently subverts our expectations. But it is Carey’s portrayal of Cassandra that will stick with you long after the big reveal.
In theaters and on Amazon PPV, PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN is the perfect crime thriller from writer/director Emerald Fennell and Carey Mulligan as the young woman who was so promising.
