PRESUMED INNOCENT is building a murder case with rapid intensity against Rusty Sabich (Jake Gyllenhaal). Audiences want to believe he is innocent, but the trail of circumstantial evidence is piling up with compelling emotional consequences.
The brilliant acting in this series is first-rate. It draws upon your heartstrings and asks the family how much it can endure. The writing allows for a slow, simmering boil of raw, realistic feelings. The extra beats and breaths give life to the most painful moments a couple, or a parent can imagine. It often looks like viewers are privy to too much. It is a mystery yearning to be solved but at its own pace of DISCOVERY. Kudos to the entire creative team.
PRESUMED INNOCENT captures the core of what the Scott Turrow novel does for readers’ imaginations. I could not put the book down then, and I can’t wait for each new installment and the courtroom drama. It is streaming on AppleTV+.
