POKER FACE was an awesome trip into the world of special effects. Watching these masterpieces of horror and terror was fun until, of course, a real-life murder became entwined with the macabre.

The series is thoroughly entertaining due to the talent of its guest stars each week. Nick Nolte, Luis Guzman, Cherry Jones, and Tim Russ brought angst, depth, regret, revenge, and longing to the writer’s words. It was as if the viewers were descending literally into a special hell along with the extraordinary props. As a former theatre teacher, I loved the unraveling of reality. Kudos to the blood, the gore, and the compelling music.

What I am least excited about week after week is the same formula for finding the truth. It does get old. We need something more unexpected. This installment ended with creatures that felt alive and the abrupt, final drop. Charlie (Natasha Lyons) is still adorable, talented, and does double duty as the director. I am just restless around her hesitant, yet ballsy, BS barometer. I need to be kept on my toes more. I hope the writers are listening.

POKER FACE is available to stream on Peacock.
