Damn, this show is fantastic. Last week slowed down for some much-needed character reveals, while the latest episode amped the violence and comedy up a notch. John Cena may be the star of PEACEMAKER, but it’s quickly becoming clear that the comedic MVP is Vigilante (Freddie Stroma).
Eli’s episode 4 review spot-on described Vigilante as a “Coke Zero version of Deadpool.” Despite Vigilante not getting to use the chain saw to make a gnarly kill, he did perfectly describe the emotions in episode 5 – it was “happy, sad, and everything in between.” 🧜♂️
While the violence level went to James Gunn DAWN OF THE DEAD territory, the heart stayed grounded. Peacemaker is a guy that thinks, “just because he’s handsome, he can do whatever he wants.” Yet, he’s quickly turning into someone with a soul through his squad. Eli once again hinted at the importance of this last week. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a blast watching Peacemaker say lines like, “eat peace, motherf*ckers.” But that’s not enough to sustain an entire season.
I don’t want to “Judge Judy” this season after only five episodes, but I feel inclined to say that PEACEMAKER will easily make my top ten TV list of 2022.
It’s available on HBO Max.
