NIGHT COURT first premiered in 1984 and ran for nine seasons. This is a reboot of that hilarious, popular comedic sitcom. It is a tough act to follow the original.
One awesome thing about the reboot is the inclusion of one of the original cast members, John Larrocuette, who is portraying the same character, Public Defender Dan Fielding. He is the same irascible, satirical, caring man. The new twist is the judge’s role is now played by the daughter of the former Judge (Melissa Rauch.) She is as sweet and cunning as her dad. The rest of the ensemble is fresh and new but still capturing the heart of the 1984 cast.
The pacing is fast and filled with one-liners. The first episode was stronger than the first. It will take time to see if there is a place for another courtroom series over thirty years later. Time will tell. The jury is still out.
