Filmmaker Craig Foster takes on one of the most unusual underwater journeys ever filmed – a year in his life that he spent making ‘friends’ with a wild common octopus in the cold-water kelp forests at the tip of Southern Africa. Stunningly shot by Roger Horrocks, we see the first tentative tentacles reach out to touch Craig’s hands that eventually culminate in the octopus sitting on Craig’s chest while he pets it like a dog.
We often hear that an octopus is as smart as a dog and this proves it and more. Craig lays bare his emotional journey, both as a human in an aquatic world, but also as a father to his teenage son. This documentary is deeply moving, and it will change the way you see other aquatic creatures.
MY OCTOPUS TEACHER will enlighten you and touch you deeply.
