MOBLAND surprised both myself and my husband. It was an intense, crazy roller coaster, action-packed series about two mob families going head-to-head. I felt like I was back in THE SOPRANO days of gangster shoot-outs and subterfuge that would end with a tongue loss. Neither l e of us could look away. It was like quicksand, dragging us down into the depths of a soulless group of characters.
The cast of MOBLAND was superb. Pierce, Brosnan, Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren, Paddy Considine, Anson Boon, Geoff Bell, and Joanne Froggatt were amazing as they brought their characters to life. I didn’t know whether to cheer for their choices or hold my head in shame for all the killings going down. There was just so much backstory necessary to be revealed. The pay-off was a perfect setup for season two. I can’t wait to see Ugg my favorites will survive another war. MOBLAND reminded me of MI5 and how the writers would kill off main characters each week. There is much to be said about constantly being in the dark. It was exciting and excruciatingly painful to watch but in a good way.Â
MOBLAND is the brainchild from Roman Bennett (THE DAY OF THE JACKAL) and Guy Ritchie (YOUNG SHERLOCK, THE GENTLEMEN) was among several directors who expertly guided audiences through all the terrible nuances of running for your life with no where to hide because your name happens to be Harrigan. They really needed more safe houses with better locations, but that helped push the story to unexpected conclusions. It was all great, bloody, violent fun and pure escapism.
Not all the critics liked MOBLAND as much as I did, but that’s okay. I stand by my hyper beating heart as I rate this series with a thumbs-up. Even a chainsaw can’t change my mind, and I say that while feeling buckets of imagined blood and brains spattering across my face.
Season one of MOBLAND is streaming on Paramount+. It will return on September 18, 2027 for season two.
