MARTY: LIFE IS SHORT 🤩

MARTY: LIFE IS SHORT is a delightfully, entertaining, documentary about the hilarious Martin Short. Lawrence Kasdan (MUMFORD, THE BIG CHILL, SILVERADO and writer of RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, THE BODYGUARD and many others) directed this insightful  look at his dear friend and colleague. It is a fascinating exploration of Short’s long, legendary career that includes his chosen path in film, television, on Broadway, as a singer, and as a  comedian. Every step of the way, Kasdan made sure audiences learned about Short’s private life as well. It felt honest and very personal.

Part of what made this film so enjoyable was all the clips and interviews of dozens of famous stars who are Short’s friends. His gaggle of buds include Tom Hanks, Catharine O’Hara, Gilda Radner, Andrea Martin, Steven Spielberg, Eugene Levy, and Steve Martin. Short is famous for his parties and weekend gatherings. It was amazing to watch such an esteemed group of people just be themselves and enjoy every moment they get to spend together. I could not stop smiling as I watched. There was so much joy and laughter that surrounds Martin Short wherever he may be. It was truly contagious and appeared authentic.

Kasdan also included the difficult times in Short’s life who has endured far too much loss and profound grief. Short’s philosophy is inspiring for anyone who has lost a spouse, a child, or a sibling. Quite frankly, it made my heart feel lighter and stronger by the time the credits rolled.

MARTY: LIFE IS SHORT also made me giggle all over again as a slew of his zany, bizarre sketch characters did their schtick. It became evident what a brilliant, creative, humorous body of work Short has accumulated, and he is not done yet. Thank goodness. There is never enough laughter in our world. Bring it on.

Don’t miss MARTY: LIFE IS SHORT now streaming on Netflix. Who knows how long any of us have to laugh with our friends and family.
