MALCOM IN THE MIDDLE: LIFEāS STILL UNFAIR is a limited, four-episode revival series. Linwood Boomer, the creator of the original, has rebooted this dysfunctional family once again and flash-forwarded the entire cast 20 years. It was a kick to see how each character landed, but thatās as far as it goes for me. I guess I have outgrown the banal, stupid, silly banter and stream of constant shouting.Ā
Yes, it was nostalgic to witness the antics of this family, but aside from Bryan Cranston as Hal, I really didnāt care, and even he went way overboard with his comedy shtick. The family dynamics are too loud and insane for 2026. They werenāt funny most of the time. I felt on edge while watching the frenetic pacing and volume level. I wanted to shout back at my screen to stop and take a breath. My husband, who usually loves stupid humor, quit watching after the second episode. This says a lot.Ā
Seeing the entire ensemble was a hoot, I have to admit. It was great fun discovering how they aged and what little or bunches they accomplished. A big shout-out to Lois, Malcolm, Reese, Francis, Piama, Kelly, Dewey, Abe, Tristan, and Leah. They each had their own magic amid the chaos and the usual vengeful moments. But our society has changed sinceĀ
MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE was first conceived. (2000-2006) And therein lies the problem. Why take this stroll down memory lane at all? Of course, money talks, and that answers my question.Ā
MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE: LIFEāS STILL UNFAIR really comes down to personal choice. Was this a favorite, beloved series twenty years ago? If so, you will be enthralled and entertained. Not so for me. I want my wasted time back, but for all of you fans out there, this is your āmehā gimmel.
It is streaming on Hulu.Ā
