LIONESS is an extremely exciting, “sit on the edge of your seat” action-packed thriller. It does not hold back, giving viewers a bird’s eye look at what could happen and probably does happen every day across the world. The dangerous missions made my palms sweat and my heart race. It is not a series for those who can’t handle huge, gun-popping battles using every military weaponry available. It is loud, raw, authentic. It creates a mountain of emotions in each episode. It was perfect.Â
The head LIONESS, Joe (Zoe Saldana), is at the center of every CIA conflict. She is constantly trying to balance her treacherous work with her home life, which includes a husband, Neal (Dave Annable), and two children. Â Every mission could end her life or one of her teammates. No one is safe, and often, it feels like a scene from MISSION IMPOSSIBLE just because of the scope of what they are trying to accomplish. The massive body count is unforgettable with the help of compelling camera angles. Saldana is so impressive. She inhabits her character totally committed. Audiences will feel her frustration, courage, strength, fear, and love in every frame. She is simply amazing.Â
Saldana is surrounded by a stellar cast with major acting skills. They include Morgan Freeman, Nicole Kidman, and Michael Kelly Byron. Sitting in the Sit Room or riding in a helicopter with the ensemble feels like the real thing. Just thinking about it raises my blood pressure.Â
LIONESS takes its audience to the edge. The props, cinematography, uniforms, and brutal battles are mind-boggling. Each episode raised the stakes, even though it only “matters to get to the end and try to succeed.” Season two was stronger than the first. It was a roller coaster ride every step of the way. I need some R&R, but I will be ready and “suit up” when it returns.
It is a must-see TV and streaming on Paramount Plus.Â
