JIM HENSON IDEA MAN is an amazing documentary about the one and only puppeteer and filmmaker, Jim Henson. The film was directed by Ron Howard, who made sure viewers received the inside scoop of what this genius, talented person was all about.Â
I had no idea about all the facts and info about Jim’s career. Henson was the innovator behind SESAME STREET, THE MUPPET SHOW, FRAGGLE ROCK, DARK CRYSTALS, and THE MUPPET MOVIE. He was the creator of the Muppets. Jim was the voice of Kermit, Bert, and hundreds of other characters. He was the idea man who worked non-stop to make sure there was a Muppet Empire as his legacy. He was always thinking of the next project and the one after that. Jim wanted to make the world see and believe his artistry and his sense of humor. He was a kid while working and loved every moment of making his passionate dreams come true.Â
The film was told through clips of his spectacular work, drawings, sketches, illustrations of his creations, and interviews with Jim, (while he was still alive) colleagues, and family members. Jim had five children who all worked with him throughout his lifetime. Frank Oz, his Muppet partner, was fascinating. He is the keeper of all the wondrous stories about their journey and how they brought life to their puppet family. They were funny, poignant tales about a man he greatly admired, respected, and loved. It was a pleasure watching this movie because all I could do was smile and relive the Muppet journey I had with my children and husband.Â
JIM HENSON IDEA MAN is a thoughtful movie created with love by Ron Howard. The music, the lighting, and each frame were precisely chosen. It worked beautifully together. What a loss to the world Jim died so young at 53. He literally worked himself to death. He believed in peace and everyone getting along. He saw our planet as one and thought Muppetry could be the answer. His bounty of work will never be forgotten. He was our RAINBOW CONNECTION because IT’S NOT EASY BEING GREEN. it is streaming on Disney+.
