IMPERFECT WOMEN S1 REVIEW 🤮

MPERFECT WOMEN completed its limited series based on the novel by Araminta Hall.  It has an incredible ensemble of fine actors including Elizabeth Moss, Kerry Washington, Joel Kinnaman, Kate Mara, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Leslie Odom Jr, yet critics have panned this show more than I can say giving it low scores. When I wrote my first review covering the opening episodes, I wasn’t sure how I felt and what to specifically say. This has changed. I cannot recommend watching IMPERFECT WOMEN for several reasons.

First off, it has to be about the writing. The dialogues, montages, and inner conversations just didn’t gel. They felt contrived and stiff. When there was an emotional conflict being explored, it just fell flat. Several times the characters screamed and shrieked in place of a loss of words. This didn’t work or connect audiences to the different points of view. I, personally didn’t feel empathy for any of them. It didn’t matter if their characters were rich or struggling, dressed well or seen as frumpy, I could not relate nor did I care.  What a shame. I usually love murder mysteries and flawed people, but this time around, there was no pull to make me want to know more.

Secondly, the pacing was slow. Eight episodes could nave been compressed to six. This would have removed the over-the-top stares at each other or out into the windows. It was a slow burn until the end, but it wasn’t enough to save it. Again, what a shame.

And lastly, IMPERFECT WOMEN was miscast. I didn’t buy into the friendship of the three leading women. They didn’t click or the director chose not to include more interesting parts of their back stories. Either way, the women didn’t grab me like they should have. Say it with me…what a shame.

The premise about the cracks along and throughout our lives is fascinating. I was initially drawn to that idea and how all the pieces would fit together. These women were not nice or kind or loyal to each other. They only wanted and dreamed about what they couldn’t have. The grass is always greener syndrome was prominently displayed everywhere. Uh, uh. Don’t buy into it and waste your time. What a shame. It is no BIG LITTLE LIES, yet it is streaming on Apple TV.
