HUMANIST VAMPIRE SEEKING CONSENTING SUICIDAL PERSON 🤩

The premise of HUMANIST VAMPIRE SEEKING CONSENTING SUICIDAL PERSON is inherently silly – a 68-year-old “teenage” vampire is kicked out of her parent’s home because of unwillingness to prey on humans. The film plays out a bit like a dramatic version of WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS or a comedic version of TWILIGHT.

HUMANIST VAMPIRE SEEKING CONSENTING SUICIDAL PERSON (Vampire humaniste cherche suicidaire consentant) takes place in French Canada and follows parallel stories of reluctant vampire Sasha (Sara Montpetit) and her destined human victim, Paul (Félix-Antoine Bénard). There is a bit of teen romance, but the film leans more into the philosophical side of Sasha’s decision paralysis.

That being said, this movie is mostly a feel-good dramedy and doesn’t weigh itself down as much as its title may suggest – culminating in a perfect Halloween watch. I regret missing this film during its limited theatrical run, but so glad I watched it.

HUMANIST VAMPIRE SEEKING CONSENTING SUICIDAL PERSON is now streaming on Mubi.
