HACKS is “on the road” with Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) and Ava (Hannah Einbinder). They now have a decked-out tour bus complete with Weed (Laurie Metcalf), the tour manager from hell.
These two episodes show the more insecure sides of Deborah and Ava. Both women are dealing with the fallout from their past. It is not always easy to “trust the “process,” but what “does shine through is the solid friendship foundation between the two ladies.
What still makes HACKS strong is the writing, timing, and angst over a tennis ball can. Jean and Hannah can cut through the noise and lead us straight to the show’s heart through sarcasm, loyalty, and genuine caring for each other. It is wonderful to watch a series about the strengths and flaws of women. It is empowering to witness who they are and who they are becoming.
There is no doubt that Deborah’s orientation is her “ego mania,” but she sure can make us all “feel like a natural woman.”
