FROM S2 REVIEW 😊

While FROM S2 100% sticks the landing, it sadly fails to engage as it breaks the cardinal writing advice rule from Matt Stone and Trey Parker. Through episodes three to seven, audiences are stuck having scenes play out with the ā€œand thenā€ moments at the end rather than the ā€œtherefore.ā€ If you haven’t watched the video, I’ll try to explain. In EVERY scene in a movie or TV series, there must be direct causation of an interaction you see on the screen. In FROM S2, we get countless scenes with characters explaining backstories, doing things that don’t have a consequence, and failing to raise tension. This is lazy writing. I expect more from Jack Bender and Jeff Pinkner. The Tl;dr: FROM S2 should’ve been four episodes instead of the tedious ten it’s trapped in.

With that said, holy shit, this season opened and ended well! The creators appear to have learned their lessons from LOST and are closing the loops on some mysteries faster while opening several ā€œfar away treeā€ doors to others. Also, kudos for pulling in horror genre elements from THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE ELM STREET and a lot of Stephen King material.

The stakes have officially been raised in FROM. I’m willing to get lost in the trees once season three returns (aka, filler), as long as the creators open and close out each season strongly.
