FOR ALL MANKIND continues to be one of the best-produced series on TV. By that, I mean the cast is top-notch, the special effects are out of this world, and it feels like a big-budget weekly movie. Yet, this show continues to lack consistent writing. After the season four premiere, I started hoping that FOR ALL MANKIND was back on track. After HAVE A NICE SOL, I’m not sure where this season is going.
I’m going to give a few examples of just how lazy the writing was this past week:
- The show opens with a training sequence that could be ripped from any military movie.
- We get a split-screen montage literally showing the separation of classes on Mars that should belong in a commercial at best.
- Whenever you see Daniel Stern on the screen, you can bet you’re getting a speech that only exists to move the plot forward with zero depth.
- And even more frustrating was the non-original INTERSTELLAR-like video montage that was supposed to be an emotional crescendo but sorely lacked Matthew McConaughey.
I know this show can do better. I’ll stick around to figure out if it does, but right now, I’m right back where I was last season with my love/hate relationship of FOR ALL MANKIND and changing my relationship status to “it’s complicated.”
