FIVE DAYS AT MEMORIAL proved there wasn’t much of a reckoning. New Orleans made their safe choices. This is a part of history. How very sad.

Dr. Pou (Vera Farmiga) was extremely convincing in presenting her story of the Katrina days and aftermath on 60 MINUTES a year later. So many things were not done according to the “book” or the evidence discovered. Doctors did not want to re-litigate the circumstances or improve the protocol for possible future disasters. This was shown through a well-written script and excellently acted by the entire ensemble. It gave me chills at times, just thinking about the medical field’s power during times like these. “Do no harm…” Remember. In the end, poor people had no way of “defending themselves.”

“Comfort care” is not the answer, and one person is not responsible for everything that went wrong. There is plenty of blame to go around. It is important to realize that “just because you remember the situation one way does not make it true.”

FIVE DAYS AT MEMORIAL is available to stream on APPLE TV+.
