EXPATS ended its series uniquely and with some healing for the three storylines. They interconnected through ordinary moments in a restaurant. It was poignant, revealing, and bittersweet.Â
The heavy weight was lifted thanks to the extraordinary acting moments from Nicole Kidman, Sarah’s Blue, and Ji-young Yoo. Their journeys were fraught with unimaginable grief and pain. It was very effective talking directly into the camera lens. Nothing could be hidden or held back. My heart ached for all of them. The writers gave viewers the most realistic conclusion they could. There were no magical fixes or do-overs. “One foot in front of the other” is the best we all can do sometimes.Â
EXPATS was a realistic series that made profound statements… ”What makes us think that anyone is safe from tragedy?” And after “we hum.” “The opposite of talking is not listening. It is waiting. I agree. So, we hum.Â
