Just when I thought “the truth is out there” would stay buried in the ’90s with THE X-FILES, along comes Steven Spielberg’s latest sci-fi thriller to set it free. David Koepp’s screenplay reaches for the stars. The familiar, by-the-book setting keeps it from leaving orbit.

Here’s the thing: a mid-tier Spielberg still outclasses most directors working today. Leave it to the 79-year-old to keep reinventing his style while honoring the genres and the era he romanticizes. What hit hardest in DISCLOSURE DAY:

Final Thought: “Listen” closely to the metaphors DISCLOSURE DAY lays out, and it rewards you more than it has any right to. It’s a nice holdover until audiences get the real X-FILES reboot next year.
