Season 1 was all about Dave Burd, AKA Lil Dicky, exploring bold topics like bipolar disorder, white privilege, and racism behind a ton of dick jokes. It was a beautifully twisted new style and one of my favorites from 2020.
Season 2 kicks off with just as many dick jokes but feels more calculated. Four months have passed, and Dave is living at a ridiculously posh Hollywood Hills house trying to complete his debut album. His self-centered character has become an even more loathsome primadonna as audiences see him “shit” on K-Pop.
I enjoyed the spectacle E1, as Dave and the gang are in Korea, but it wasn’t deep enough like S1. As for E2, Dave’s real-life hype man, Gata, once again steals the show. This time by trying out VR porn hilariously in the background of several key scenes.
At one point, Dave says that he’s “creatively bankrupt.” I’m hoping that S2 is far from that, and it finds its footing in next week’s outing.
E1 and E2 are available on FX.
