APEX is a thriller-adventure series that delivers fast-paced, heart-pounding action in every scene. It offered little backstory as to why some would partake in these cliff-hanging extreme sports. It was truly a constant life-or-death situation most of the time. I enjoyed the thrill, but I also wanted more info.Â
Charlize Theron as Sasha, the adept mountain climber, was phenomenal. Her physicality in this film was superb and haunting. Her survival mode was believable and rang honest. I don’t know if she did all her own stunts, but if she did, holy shit. I was on the verge of my seat every painful step of the way.Â
Taron Egerton played Ben, a man I would never want to meet in a darkened alley. Two words come to mind to describe him: deranged and creepy. I can’t say more. The story content demands the viewer’s attention to unfold within its own momentum.Â
The Australian Outback was stunning. The camera’s eye took audiences to gorgeous waterfalls, gorges, caves, rapids, thick forests, and amazing, dangerous summits. I felt like I was actually there in person.
My only nit, again, was the lack of storytelling. More content and details about the characters would have cemented everything and taken this frightening, exhilarating tale to a higher level.Â
APEX is streaming on Netflix. Â
