Even though “Valentine’s Day is the fast food chain of holidays,” E4’s theme is perfect for any hopeless romantic. Episode four’s title, LOVE IS A BATTLEFIELD, foreshadows a battle that changes the show’s dynamic forever. And it works so well because it’s about shattered relationships.
ACAPULCO is essentially a soap opera. Yet, what keeps me hooked is how much fun the characters are and that they are all good people at their core. Even a likable throwaway character like Estaban (Carlos Corona) is lovable. His “hook” worthy arc with Nora (Vanessa Bauche) keeps getting more complex as the story unfolds.
Due to the huge turning point in BATTLEFIELD, very little happens in E5 – WE DON’T NEED ANOTHER HERO. However, even when there isn’t much going on, the show is still worthy of the audience’s time.
As the characters’ growth continues in ACAPULCO, so does my weekly anticipation of watching the next edition. It’s a flawless cross between my favorite TV shows, TED LASSO, and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER. I hope we get an answer to the mysterious bracelet quicker than it took to find out about a specific pineapple.
It’s available on Apple TV+.
