TINA, the documentary on the life of legendary Tina Turner, is mesmerizing, powerful, and fulfilling. It chronicles the heartbreaking and inspirational story of 17-year-old Annie Mae Bullock’s journey to becoming TINA.

The story is filled with clips and photos of Tina throughout her time with Ike Turner. It chronicles the abuse she was made to endure until she found her inner strength. I thought I knew Tina’s story from watching the biopic movie, “What’s Love Got To Do With It?” I had followed her for years in magazines and books, but this film brought it all out and I could not look away.

TINA told its truth about a life Tina never wanted to talk about once she was able to escape the mentality of being a victim of physical, verbal, and sexual abuse. But for Tina, she had to learn to accept her life as an abandoned child and a beaten wife to move on and let go.

Watching Tina perform, whether she is in front of 1000 or 386,000 people in Rio is riveting. She gives of herself totally. She is the rock and roll queen who lulls us with her husky, sexy, dynamic voice and dance moves. Tina gives us all her love and we reciprocate tenfold. TINA is an extraordinary look at what love is all about and how legends are created.

TINA is available to stream on HBO Max.
